Story 4

Austin’s biggest music, interactive and film festival came and went in a 10 day period bringing in 27,000 more people to the streets. Marketing, entertainment and traffic are the biggest attraction.

SXSW photographer Gabe Garza talks about the interactive portion, “A lot of creative people here is good and bad,” the ideas are the same which makes it difficult and you don’t know what companies will win.”

In the year of 2007 at an Interactive conference of SXSW one company in particular gained buzz and also won the web award. “ Even Twitter in 2007 gained popularity by being here at SXSW,” said Garza.

From the first tweets in 2007 to 1, 028, 611 tweets this year was the biggest influence on the total of 1, 319, 877 social media activity for SXSW 2012.

Not everyone at SXSW without a platinum badge can attend these events for the interactive portion. This leaves those with wristbands feeling left out.

“I think they should make certain panels open to the public without badges and advertise it,” said Nicci Contreras of Kyle Texas, “ If it was advertised on twitter or google and had information where it would be held and what would be talked about I would be there.”
